Your Love Story…

Derick and I met each other through mutual (and very persistent) friends almost 7 years ago. He was charming, smart and he made me laugh which made me fall in love instantly. We got engaged while travelling through Venice, Italy in 2015. He popped the question while we were sitting in a park looking at the water, away from crowds which was perfect!

Destination Wedding…

We live in a wonderful part of the world so why not get married here.

Wedding Week…

Some of my family travelled from overseas to attend the wedding so we wanted to show them where we live. We took them on a 3 island cruise around the islands, drove to Eungella to have a wander through the rainforests and see if we could spot some platypus. We also visited Bowen and surrounds.

Wedding Day Vision…

I think we called my style “unstructured glam”. It was a mix of classic colours. I like the cool shades of ivory, soft pink and threw in some vibrant greens and for a bit of glam – champagne sparkle. The colours were chosen around the bridal bouquet and the sparkle came from the shoes. The styling of both ceremony and reception reflected this also. With the ceremony I just wanted it as simple as possible because the view of the water from the pavilion was the focal point. With the reception I wanted to bring in the floral centrepieces to keep everything fresh and vibrant.

The Event Company and Flower Hut did an amazing job of capturing exactly what I wanted.

The dress had a fully beaded bodice and ruffled full skirt – therefore I kept jewellery to a minimum with just drop down earrings and a bracelet.

Sit Down or Cocktail…

We had 55 adults and 6 kids attend the wedding. We chose a sit down meal with a full buffet. We also put together a desert buffet. This way everyone got to choose exactly what they like to eat and the the amount.

Plenty of food and drinks make for happy guests.

Honeymoon Heaven…

We drove up to Palm Cove, just North of Cairns for a few days. We also stayed at Paranella Park on our way there. Both beautiful spots.

Hens & Bucks…

For the bucks party Derick and the boys went to Midge Point. One of our friends kindly donated the use of their beach house. The boys remain tight lipped about the details of what they got up to.

For the hens night we started at Walters Lounge where they organised an amazing cocktail making class followed by some shenanigans at Anchor Bar and some dancing at Magnums.

Splurge Vs Save…

We splurged on accommodation and reception decor. We made our own signage for the ceremony and the seating plan for the reception. I also made the glitter table numbers to match the colour theme. Little things like that helped and personalised the entire event.

We really could have made a few other decorations ourselves however if you don’t have the time – it’s a lot easier to hire.

Whitsunday Wedding Venue…

I have always wanted to get married at the Whitsunday Pavilion, the view is stunning, especially if the tide is in. The Palm House is an amazing venue. Their organisational and communication skills are what drove us to them, not to mention the stunning gardens. There was never a “no” but a solution if there was something they couldn’t do. Even though I decided within a week of the wedding that we will do a sparkler entrance – they organised everything promptly and efficiently.

We are very lucky to live in an area with the most amazing and experienced suppliers. I’m glad I listened to their advice as the event went smoothly.
